I'm in TIME's 50 Best Websites list Cactus // 20:49 // 7 replies
I can't really comprehend how this happened, but my site is 2010's 2nd best gaming site, according to TIME Magazine. 42nd best website overall.

The site's pink background and animated header give you a clue that it isn't a typical gaming site. Cactus Squid is the online repository for the games of Jonatan Soderstrom, creator of a wonderfully quirky (and utterly creative) series of free arcade-style games. Are they low-budget? Sure, but therein lies much of their charm. The must-download is Arcade 2.0, which groups together 18 of Soderstrom's games into one downloadable package.

I won an IGF award! Cactus // 19:55 // 10 replies
So I actually won an award this year! I was not expecting it at all. I was sitting at the table with people from Poppenkast and Kokoromi, getting bitter about whatever game would snatch the prize away, and had a lot of beer. I still can't believe I actually won!

You can watch the whole thing at:

(My award is presented at 30:00 if you wanna skip ahead)

INDEPENDENT GAMES FESTIVAL 2010 + EO = TRUE Cactus // 01:24 // 7 replies
Today I just finished up an IGF trailer of my current big work in progress TUNING. TUNING is a game that can't be explained in a very interesting way, but it has already won an award at this year's IndieCade for Sublime Experience, and so far I have gotten a lot of positive feedback, so I'm pretty confident that it'll turn out to be a nice experience for most people who will end up playing it.

You can watch the trailer here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji-OPheJGdk

There are also several other games developed within the community that has been entered. Messhof's Flywrench, Deadheat and Phuban's (or Brothers Gemini as they prefer to be called) Sword of Legend, Srehpog's Umbrella Adventure, CoolMoose and YMM's RunMan: Race around the world, and Rinku's Saturated Dreamers (and I'm not even sure that's all of them).

This means that if you look at it optimistically, the odds that an Eo member will win an award is relatively high, and a nomination or two seems likely. So, let's hope 2010 goes our way ;)

Interviews Cactus // 00:46 // 3 replies
I've been interviewed a lot recently. Four or five times, out of which two were for printed magazines and the rest for various sites. This has made me realize that it is pretty hard to present yourself in a favourable light, because I've had a really hard time answering the questions I've been getting.

I don't know how to tackle it at all. Should I be casual, should I be formal, should I try to get a joke in somewhere to make myself seem like a fun guy or should I try to be intelligent, deep and exciting? The obvious answer is "Hey, just be yourself, you'll do fine!", problem is that I'm not that interesting to listen to. My games and me are two separate entities, and my personality doesn't really reflect anything to be found in my games. I'm merely a guy with good taste and desire to make games, not an elaborate creative genius.

Right now, I feel like I'd need to take a course in doing this :P

PS. This doesn't mean that I don't like being interviewed. The pros definitely outnumber the cons.

Bruno 9li - Amazing contemporary artist Cactus // 01:17 // 3 replies
I just happened to stumble upon an amazing artist today, and fell so deeply in love with the guy's magic paintings that I went and shelled out ?30 to get his pictures in print. First time I've ever bought an artbook.

http://www.bruno9li.com/

He's apparently twenty seven years old and from Brazil. I've never really had any kind of grasp on Brazilian culture, aside from all the carnivals you see on TV, so this was a pleasant surprise.

Maybe I'll be able to get some inspiration from the guy in my future games. Would be awesome to see games that looked like this for sure.

There's tons of pictures at his site, so if you like what you see, you should definitely check it out. Just click here.
